Carbon steel plates are mainly divided into conventional and unconventional specifications. Conventional specifications include common dimensions such as thickness, width and length, while unconventional specifications are some special sizes of carbon steel plates, such as extra thick plates, extra wide plates, etc. Its thickness is usually between 0.5mm and 300mm, and it can be divided into thin, medium and thick types. Thin carbon steel plates are generally between 0.5mm and 4mm thick and are often used in electronic products and automotive parts; medium and thick carbon steel plates are between 4mm and 20mm thick and are suitable for construction and machinery manufacturing; and thick carbon steel plates are generally above 20mm thick and are suitable for large machinery and equipment and shipbuilding. The width of carbon steel plates is generally between 1000mm and 3000mm, and the length is usually between 2000mm and 12000mm, which can be customized according to different needs1.

In addition, carbon steel plates can be divided into low carbon steel, medium carbon steel and high carbon steel according to their carbon content. The carbon content of low carbon steel is generally less than 0.25%, the carbon content of medium carbon steel is generally between 0.25% and 0.60%, and the carbon content of high carbon steel is generally greater than 0.60%. For example, 20# steel is a high-quality carbon steel, which complies with the GB/T711 standard and has a carbon content of 0.2%, which is low carbon steel.
